Cheese & Basil Twists

Cheese & Basil Twists

I used Puff pastry for these yummy cheese and basil twists. They are great in the afternoon if you get a little peckish.

Ingredients:

Sheet of Puff pastry
Basil (Pesto)
Beaten Egg to brush over the twists
Grated Cheese

To Do:

Roll the sheet out onto your work surface, these generally come already wrapped in a greaseproof paper. Cut as many as you need, you will be placing two pieces together on top of each other so make sure you cut enough!

Add the Pesto all over the strips, you can do it as a whole sheet if you prefer, but I like to do it once it's cut. All the strips need to be covered in this seasoning.

Sprinkle half of them with grated Cheese, quite thickly and then cover each one with the top half that is left and press firmish, and carefully twist them twice.

Once you've done them all, you then need use the remaining egg, add some dried breadcrumbs. I use Panko bread crumbs as they are the crispiest ones that I've found and you can buy these at Tesco!

Now spoon these on top of the twists and spread a thin layer all over them. Bake them in the oven on Gas mark 7 for about 20 minutes. Turn them around so the back is at the front half way through, this will help even out the heat. Once cooked, place them on a rack to cool and when you need a snack, hey presto, these will do nicely :0). They are also good at parties, kids love them too!
