Plain Scones

Plain Scones

With these I used a straight biscuit cutter

Ingredients:

450g S/R Flour
50g Sugar
110g Butter
200ml Milk
1 tsp Baking Powder
Pinch of Salt
1 Egg
(currants/cherries optional)

Instructions:

Add the salt, baking powder, sugar and flour to a mixing bowl and toss them about. Now add the butter and break it up between your fingers until the mixture looks like crumbs.

If you want to add some currants or cherries, add them now!

Next add one beaten egg and a little milk and mix with a spoon. Mix until it becomes a dough, you must knead it together and the turn it out onto a floured surface.

Keep kneading the dough until it is smooth and then roll it out to about 1.5cm thick. Remember you're making scones so they need to be thick to enable you to slice them in half.

Place them on a greaseproof tray and bake at Gas mark 7 for approx 20 minutes or until golden brown.
